Massive Charity Spin Event to Power Mental Health Awareness in Calgary

On Sunday, November 8th, YYC CYCLE and the Event Centre at The Arrowhead will host one of the largest indoor cycling charity events the city has ever seen. Two back-to-back spin classes will bring together 200 riders, community leaders, local celebrities and businesses at The Arrowhead, raising critical funds for the Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST) at the University of Calgary.

Thanks to the generous donation of the venue and full audio/visual production by The Arrowhead, participants will experience an unforgettable high-energy fitness event with a purpose.

About MIST

The Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST) was created at the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education at the University of Calgary’s renowned Hotchkiss Brain Institute to transform tragedy into positive action. MIST explores how emotional stress and physical trauma impact the brain, and how these affect mental health conditions and psychiatric illnesses. MIST also increases public education about stress, brain trauma and emotional health — and is building a community dedicated to destigmatizing mental health challenges.

Since 2023, MIST has been spinning out awareness and connection through the annual Hustle with Hunt spin-a-thon, using movement to spark conversations about mental health. Calgary dentist, YYC Cycle Bikergang member and passionate MIST Champion, Dr. Rob Hunt, has been the driving force behind the event — partnering with UCalgary and YYC CYCLE to inspire others to ride, support and make a difference.

“This is more than just a fitness event. It’s a chance for Calgary to unite in support of mental health awareness and research, to bring visibility to mental health in, and to show that when the community comes together, we can make a powerful difference.
”
— Andrew Obrecht - YYC CYCLE
“When you give to MIST, you accelerate real mental health solutions for those who need them. We have the right team to lead that research, right now, at the University of Calgary. We’re grateful to our community for supporting better mental health for all”
— Dr. Matthew Hill, PhD - MIST Research Chair
